The health of our kids, husband, parents and extend families are amongst the daily concern of women in our society. Women oftentimes forget to think about themselves, our dual role in society does put a strain on our health. Women have to learn to think about themselves and their health more often. I had the pleasure of interviewing several women about their health concerns. These interviewees varied in age, cultural and race. I was very surprise that no one listed heart disease as one of her health concerns. Everyone was mostly concern about breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and diabetes. They were concern due to known family history. However, all admit to putting their health concerns on the back burner.
My biggest concern are diabetes and heart disease. I am concern due to my family history,  my race and  my gender. I will admit that I had to learn to take care of myself better. Sometimes, I still forget about me but I am learning.
We play a very important role in our  society. It is  time  to realize that  taken CARE of Me  is beneficial
to our families.

  1. Keisha,

I agree with you 100% percent in regards to women taking the back burner when it comes to our family and family health. It has been like this for centuries, however, we are finally are starting to see the light in needing to take care of ourselves as well. Children grow and leave and the outcome of your health by then would make is much harder to reverse comparing to taking care of your self during your primary time in life.

Families usually only seek health advise for what their families went through for generations and forget to take of other factors that affect women everyday such as heart disease. Great post!

  2. Keshia,

Hey I agree with you when u say health is sometimes put on the back burner. We as people have to be proactive instead of reactive. Plus, technology today has gotten so advanced, things people used to do by hand and by actually working up a sweat are now simplified by todays and yesterdays inventions. The problem is we eat all this fast food due to busy schedules, then we go sit for 8hrs and do nothing then get home and be "tired." If we cant eat right the least we could do is exercise and get outside and do something! then if our kids witness us running, or being active and getting out and doing things, they will follow :).

    Enjoyed your post Keisha!

  3. Keisha,

I agree with you that we as women do not think about our own health, but the health of others. I have been in that place before I don't have children right now, but stay concerned with my families health issues. Diabetes, Asthma, and High Blood Pressure run on both sides of my family and I worry more about them then myself. I make sure that they are taking their medicines and getting what they need and completely forget about myself, but I do try to keep up with doctors appointments and that is something that we all need to make sure we do because one doctor visit can help detect something early on and stop it or just give you peace of mind. We need to stay on top of this and be sure we are taking care of ourselves because you never know what could happen.

    Great post
